Young Actors Workshop Series

This is a series of two workshops a month, through the Santaquin Recreation Dept. Even those who have been involved in theater before will benefit from these workshops.
In this series, young actors will learn, practice and improve in acting as they use their Voice, Body, Expression, Imagination, Concentration and Performance theater skills. Each class will bring in different elements of performance while using basic skills. They will improve their techniques & know more about a variety of theater performing.
Here are the upcoming workshop:
Feb 6 & 13 - MASH-UP: What about uncommon theater performances, ones that we don’t try out often? That’s this workshop: puppetry, radio theater and reader’s theater (more or less). And getting in some theater basics exercises.
Mar 5 & 12 - IMPROV GAMES: Improvisation takes practice and students will learn several improv techniques then put those techniques into improv games.
Apr 9 & 16 - AUDITIONS: Students will work on how to be impressive when auditioning. They’ll work on (short) monologues, cold readings & improv, using theater basics to capture the director’s attention…and they’ll work on using nervous energy for positive effect.
Apr 17 - Auditions to be in a 30-minute show, then it's work, work, work as students rehearse hard and perform like pros for the community. (see rehearsal dates below)

  • theater is intense team-work;

  • students gain a sense of accomplishment;

  • reading is emphasized as the students memorize lines;

  • depending on the script, students learn about classic literature and history.
